The Internet Society Nepal Chapter (Open Internet Nepal) is organizing Global Encryption Day Nepal 2025 on 8 October 2025 at Vivanta Kathmandu. This half‑day public awareness and advocacy program will bring together participants from diverse professional backgrounds to discuss the crucial role of end‑to‑end encryption (E2EE) in protecting digital privacy, security, and rights in Nepal’s evolving digital ecosystem.

Under the theme “Encryption and Digital Privacy: Securing Nepal’s Digital Future,” the event will combine education, interaction, and practical demonstrations to build public understanding and support for strong encryption.

Program Highlights

  • Multi‑Stakeholder Panel Discussion
Cybersecurity specialists, legal experts, and digital rights advocates will share perspectives on why strong encryption is essential for citizens, businesses, and democracy in Nepal.

  • Youth‑Led Lightning Talks – “Encryption in Everyday Life”
Young speakers will connect technical concepts to daily experiences—messaging apps, online banking, cloud storage—showing how encryption protects people and why backdoors put everyone at risk.

  • Interactive E2EE Demonstration
A live demo will show how popular apps implement end‑to‑end encryption and explain the privacy and security threats that arise when encryption is weakened.
