Internet society nepal chapter
We are the Internet Society’s official global presence within the territory of Nepal. We bring together dedicated members of our community who engage in programs and activities focused on establishing the internet as a force for good through local initiatives, policy advocacy, and educating end-users on internet-related issues. We are one of more than 100+ Internet Society chapters globally, and we operate within Nepal under our registered legal entity, “Open Internet Nepal.”
The Internet Society Nepal Chapter is a non-profit and non-partisan organization dedicated to improving digital access in Nepal. Officially established on April 1st, 2024, as the Internet Society Nepal Chapter, we are officially registered as Open Internet Nepal with the status of a non-profit organization. Based in Kathmandu, our mission is to connect the unconnected, build digital competence, and advocate for the future of the Internet. This future is Open, Accessible, Affordable, and Secure.
Nepal’s internet access is vital for bridging the digital divide and empowering communities with information and opportunities. It plays a crucial role in education, providing students and teachers with access to a wealth of resources and learning platforms. Connecting local contexts to global markets and enabling participation in the digital economy facilitates societal as well as economic growth. To improve internet access, the Internet Society Nepal Chapter focuses on expanding broadband infrastructure in rural and underserved areas. By partnering with local governments and the private sectors, we aim to deploy affordable and reliable internet services that reach every corner of the country.
Additionally, we implement internet literacy programs to ensure individuals can utilize internet resources effectively and safely, thus fostering an inclusive digital environment. Some of the key initiatives include: setting up community networks in rural areas to ensure connectivity where traditional infrastructure is lacking. Additionally, we conduct workshops and training sessions to educate individuals and organizations about cybersecurity and online privacy. This empowers them to navigate the digital world safely and effectively.
